Type 1 Diabetes, part 2

Okay, time for part 2. To the left is a picture of me and Erianna. Erianna was diagnosed with diabetes, to be on insulin for the rest of her life. But this diabetes not only affected her, it affected our whole family. I must count her carbs for everything she eats. I must figure out how much insulin to give her. She is not old enough to bear this burden; I must bear it for her until she is older.

And a burden it is. I give her shots, not because I like to, but because I have to. If I didn't, she would die. Erianna having diabetes is something I constantly have to lay on the altar before God. My one encouragement and prayer is that He will use her disease for His glory. It takes being very disciplined to keep her within a healthy range.

Every 4-6 months Erianna goes for a check up. She is weighed, measured, the dr. looks at her blood sugars, and makes adjustments as needed. Also, she gets blood taken to test her A1C (a diabetes thing), her thyroid, and other things. This last time, they also tested her for a wheat allergy, because 10% of kids with type 1 diabetes also have a wheat allergy.

Today, I found out that Erianna has tested positive for having a wheat allergy. What happens now? She must go to a GI dr. and have an endoscopy done. This will confirm or deny her allergy. If it is positive, then her diet will be adjusted severely to include no wheat.

I am at peace, but little thoughts do creep in, like her love for cereal, pizza, and pasta. Looking at her and wondering why such a small innocent child has to go through these terrible trials. It is hard to see her in pain as they poke and prod on her. But I trust in God. Nothing is happening to her that surprises Him. He must have a great, awesome, and wonderful plan for her life. Praise the Lord!
