Why I Homeschool

So you may be wondering, "Why would someone WANT to homeschool?" When our kids turn 5, they can go to public, and we are free to do as we please. So why would someone want to keep them home for 18 more years?

Well, I, being the obedient parent I am, sent my oldest child off to kindergarten, and off to the rest of his school career, so I thought. But problems began. He was a social bug and loved to talk to others. The teacher moved him around the room, trying to place him some where he wouldn't talk, but he liked everyone!

The teacher had a behavior system of sending home a colored card, letting parents know how their child's behavior was that day at school. Green was good, yellow was okay, red was not good.

So my oldest started bringing home reds. And notes from the teacher, and then came the meetings with the teacher. He was a good student, just an avid talker. This led to meetings with the principal and school counsellor. All for talking!

When talking with my son, it seemed he was bored in school. He wanted to learn math and reading, but in kindergarten all they learned was "social skills", which he had down pat already. I talked with him about homeschooling. I talked with my sister (a teacher) and his Sunday School teacher (also a school teacher). They both were positive about homeschooling.

I ordered the materials and soon enough Blake would go to school during the day, then come home and do his homeschool work. He loved it! Since then, seven years ago, we did try public school with the oldest three but it didn't work out. I love having my kids at home with me and would miss them terribly if they were gone all day. So that's the reason I started homeschooling. Another day I'll share more information on that.

Til then,
Jennifer

My youngest son is also very social and one of the reasons I homeschool him also. My older son is social but my youngest is to the extream LOL. They haven't been in the school system but I knew my oldest would be board in school because he too was a bit advanced and my younget would be just to social LOL. This is our third year of homeschooling.
